Meet Andy and Susan

Cutting edge literary agent and Master Teacher Dr. Susan Brown bring years of experience and expertise on contemporary fiction to this Writing Fiction Retreat in Provence.  Separately the two have  guided dozens of books into print and now will be teaming up to share the perspectives of editor and agent in a week of workshops, one-on-one meetings, and feedback sessions.

Andy Ross, a literary agent in Oakland California, has his finger on the pulse of contemporary publishing.  He represents many genres in fiction: literary, commercial, historical, crime, and upmarket women’s, middle grade, and YA as well as books in a wide range of non-fiction genres including science, medicine, journalism, history, popular culture, memoir, and current events.  Shooting Stars, the memoir of his client, former Paparazzi, Jennifer Buhl, was recently optioned to a major Hollywood studio and is currently in development for a scripted series.  Andy will be attending all the workshops and providing the perspective of the agent and the book publisher.  He will evaluate and consult with writers  individually bout concept, structure, style, and marketability from the point of view of a publishing insider.

 

Susan Brown brings 30 years of conducting sold-out workshops and helping bring over a dozen books into print as a personal editor and book doctor. A James Joyce scholar with a PhD in Modernist literature, Dr. Brown introduces writers to the secrets of the literary masters from James Joyce to Toni Morrison. She works with writers to clarify, improve, or find the theme, voice, structure, and narrative arc for a fiction manuscript in any stage of development.   All of her clients and students are quick to note her warmth, honesty, and sense of humor as well as her talents as a writing coach and teacher.
